Note: this does not apply to Soccer School shirts.

2.      Soccer School Family Fun Night  - August 25

The Soccer School Family Fun Night will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2005 at 6:00 p.m., at Beckwith Park.  As in the past, the final day will be a family time of soccer with games between players and family.
Soccer School Coordinator Lisa Meabry will supervise the annual BBQ. Many parent volunteers will be required to help serve our budding soccer stars.
Doug Leitch of Top Selection will provide music for the Soccer School party.
Dr. Robert Earle, Chiropractor, is sponsoring the hot dogs and snacks at the Soccer School BBQ.  Thank you, Rob!

Soccer School Coaches – take note:
After the fun soccer games on August 25, return all soccer equipment to Lisa Meabry.  This includes soccer balls, bags, and the plastic cones used in practices and scrimmages.

3.      Goulbourn Lanark Soccer League Cup

The GLSL Cup marks the end of another soccer season for the Recreational League.  There are two distinct sections separating the teams by age groups and by location. Some sections will have games Thursday night and the majority of games on the Saturday and Sunday. Please check your schedules carefully.  For schedules, go to our Club website and click on the GLSL-House link.  Then click on the GLSL Youth Cup link.
The first section for Under 8, Under 9 and Under 18 teams will be on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, August 25, 27 and 28 at Beckwith Park. The second section for Under 10 up to and including Under 15 teams will be on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, September 8, 10 and 11 in Richmond.
At the Cup, all participants including players, parents, coaches, and referees will require cooperation and patience. Organizers try to prepare for every eventuality but …….

Coaches

1. Bring 5 completed game sheets to the administration site where you play your first game, at least 15 minutes before your first game.

2. Make sure players know when & where games are to be played. A numbered field map will be provided at sign-in. Make sure that your team name is correct on the referee's scorecard.

3. Home teams must provide a game ball of the correct size.

4. Ask players to bring an extra white T-shirt in case of colour conflicts.

5. Each game has two 20-minute halves with a 5-minute half time.

6.  Information concerning the Cup, including schedules, maybe found on the Club website using the link to GLSL.  Coaches may also contact Peter Menyasz, Head Coach, at 253 3201.

Players

1. Return your shirt to your coach right after your last Cup game.

2. Remember to bring lots of water and sunscreen.

Fans and Team Supporters

1. The most important objective of the Goulbourn Lanark Soccer League Cup is that it be a fun experience for everyone. Harassment of players, referees and/or coaches by anyone will not be tolerated.

2. Ensure the player’s Club team shirt is returned to the Coach after the final Cup game.

4. ERSL and OCSL Teams

Note: Please return team shirts to the coach after your final game for the summer season. This will avoid the necessity of cashing the $50.00 shirt deposit cheque.

Awards Day - September 25

The Club will present its annual awards on Sunday, September 25 in the Cafetorium of Carleton Place High School. There will be two ceremonies to permit a reasonable balance of teams in attendance at each ceremony. This format also allows space so players can invite parents and other family members.

Team Level                  Presentation Time
U8 – U10 + U 11B      1:00 pm. to 2:15 pm.
U11G – U15                3:00 pm. to 4:15 pm.

On Awards Day, tickets will be issued to players and coaches for special door prizes.
Coaches and assistant coaches are requested to attend and to sit with their teams. Each team will have a designated seating area. Signs will indicate the seating space for each team. There is seating for parents at the back of the Cafetorium.
The Awards Day committee needs volunteers to help with set-up and clean up. Please contact Leyla Read to offer your help for a couple of hours at 257 8618.

NOTICE OF THE CLUB'S ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
November 30, 2005

As required by Club By-law No. 1 the Annual General Meeting of members of the Carleton Place Soccer Club Inc. will be on Thursday, November 30 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be in the Boardroom at the Carleton Place Arena.
The Ontario Soccer Association has mandated that a 4-page bylaw must be included in all clubs’ constitutions. As a result our Club constitution must be amended and adopted at our AGM. Please see our modified constitution on the Club web site in September.

Coaches' Corner

1.      Annual Coaches’ Meeting

The Annual Coaches’ Meeting will be held on Wednesday September 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the Carleton Place Arena Boardroom. All coaches and assistant coaches are encouraged to attend the Coaches’ Meeting and participate.  Your ideas and input will help make next season even more successful.

2.      Player Evaluations

Bring the completed Player Evaluation forms to the Annual Coaches’ Meeting and deliver them to Peter Menyasz.  The blank forms were distributed in each coaching package.  Please contact Peter if you need replacements.

3.      Soccer Shirts and Shirt Deposits

Coaches must collect all Club team shirts after their final game.  Coaches are requested to wash players’ shirts before returning them.  Place the clean shirts in the equipment storage bin with a copy of a game sheet clearly indicating the shirt number returned by each player.  This list will be used to identify any $50.00 shirt deposits cheques that will have to be cashed because shirts were not returned.

4.      Equipment Return

Deliver filled team equipment storage bins to Mark Ekstrom on Saturday, October 1, 11:00 – 3:00 at Art’s Storage, 440 Town Line West.
The bins should contain the game sheet with shirt numbers, all players’ shirts (including any extra shirts), soccer balls & bags, the plastic cones used in practices and games, pinnies, and any other Club equipment.

2005 Summer Soccer Highlights

1.      July Soccer Camps

Andrea Read, Maria Manzon and Lorne Musselman provided expert coaching for eighty soccer players from U8 to U13 during five soccer  camps. The excitement generated among the campers carried over into their league play. The players soccer skills dramatically improved and their level of enthusiasm was contagious. Congratulations to each of them. Keep on working!

2.      Mississippi Invitational Soccer Tournament

MIST hosted 58 girls teams in July and 60 boys teams in August from across eastern Ontario and from as far away as Sudbury, Opeongo, Renfrew, Mt. Hamilton, and Whitby.  We have a growing reputation for a well-run tournament. Teams enjoy playing within their own competitive level. The coaches were very pleased with the high caliber of refereeing, fields and the atmosphere of the Tournament.
Lorne Musselman and Marjorie Scott, co-coordinators, acknowledge the hours of work donated by Club volunteers to make MIST such a success
.

3.      Fields Highlights

1. It was really gratifying to see the fields at Beckwith Park covered with players. The Municipalities and the Club have done something wonderful for our community there.

2. The third field on the Town of Carleton Place property, adjacent to Notre Dame was ready and well used in the 2005 season.

Notre Dame CHS has made a track around the school field and the Club has financially supported the installation of a sprinkler system.

Fall Program

Building Skills for 2006

The Club’s first ever Fall Program offers players a chance to improve their skills and provides a bridge from the summer to winter programs.
Who: Players who plan to register for the 2006 summer season with the Carleton Place S.C. (Depending on registration levels, players from outside the Club may be invited to participate.)

Where: Notre Dame High School fields.
When: Five consecutive Saturday mornings, starting September 24, 2005, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Why: The program offers an opportunity to build your soccer skills, work with high-level coaches both from within and outside the Carleton Place Soccer Club, to play some exhibition games, and . . . most importantly . . . HAVE FUN!!!!
How much: $60 per player.
Brochures will be distributed to the Club teams in August. Complete the registration form and mail to the Club as soon as possible. If you have not received a brochure, or need information, please contact Fall Program Coordinator Glenn MacDougall, 257-7384, or Club Head Coach Peter Menyasz, 253-3201.

Winter Soccer 2004-2005

Recreational Indoor Soccer

The winter indoors recreational program will run in school gymnasia in Carleton Place starting in mid-November. Groups will meet one night a week to practice skills and play informal games. Players from Soccer School and older are invited to register.  Experienced coaches agree that year round training develops better ball control and footwork.  It is fun too.
The Goulbourn Lanark Soccer League intends to run an indoor soccer league starting after Christmas. Details will be available on Awards Day. We will post detailed information on the Club website when it becomes available to us.

Registration

Registration for Club members will take place on Awards Day, Sunday, September 25, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Carleton Place High School.
A notice will appear in the Carleton Place Canadian and Weekender confirming the public registration time and date.
If you miss these dates you can go to the Club website, http://cpsc.carletonplace.com and download the winter registration form, complete it and mail it in.
The soccer programs will be filled on a first received, first registered basis – so don’t delay.   You must be registered to play.  No registration will be done at the gyms.
The exact dates, playing nights and times depend on the availability of gym space and coaches.

2.  Fees

The recreational winter soccer fee will depend on whether or not the GLSL indoor league occurs and/or the cost of the technical support.  The fee will be finalized before registration.
Cheques will have to be dated November 1 and made payable to ‘CPSC Inc’.
Player fees must be paid in full at time of registration.

3.  Refund Policy

If a player withdraws before November 1, a full refund will be given.  Withdrawals between November 1 and December 15 will be charged $20 administration fee. There will be no refunds after December 15. The Treasurer requires all refund requests in writing.
The Club will make a full refund of a player’s indoor, recreational, soccer fees if the player can not be placed on a team.

Competitive Indoor Soccer in Ottawa Soccer Leagues

Division 1, Premier and Regional level soccer, like other high performance sports, requires a year round commitment.  Winter soccer is an excellent way to keep your skills sharp and conditioning level high.
Interested coaches organize their own teams, under the banner of the Carleton Place Soccer Club, and pay their fees directly to the winter leagues in Ottawa. The team registration cost per player will depend on the number of players on a team: more players/ team = lower fee/player.
The coach and/or team manager will be responsible for collecting the fees and registering in the respective Ottawa League.  The fees listed below were from 2004.

Level              Cost Per Player            Team Size
U12                  $100.00 (approx.)       10 Players
U13 and up       $100.00 (approx.)       12 Players

The multi-player family discount does not apply to “competitive” fees since the registration is outside our Club.
The Club will allocate space for team practices one night/week in a Carleton Place gym, if these teams want a practice night near home.
The Club will collect the practice fee of $30 per player.  Player practice fees must be paid in full before practice sessions begin. The Club will issue refunds for Practice Fees if there are insufficient players registered to cover the cost of gym rentals.

Important People in the Club

PLAYERS: Player development in soccer and other sports requires player commitment. Commitment means attending practice, listening to coaches, doing conditioning activities, and rehearsing what the coach suggests at the team practice and at home. Parental support and encouragement will help players develop.
COACHES: The majority of coaches have
their Level 1 Community Coaching certification. The Club will continue to subsidize certification courses for coaches on an ongoing basis.
Coaching experience can only be gained with time and proper support. The Club needs more coaches. We want new and returning coaches to know that the Club will support them by organizing workshops or reimbursing costs associated with other courses.
REFEREES: The referee program set up by Irv Emmanuel and Bruce Hartill has worked extremely well. Supporting the referees with kind words and recognizing that they are in charge of running the game makes our Club stronger.
PARENTS: Parental support and encouragement help players develop. This is truly appreciated by Club Coaches and Executive.  Thank you, Parents!
Parents of players are the main source of volunteers for the Club. Our volunteer organization is healthy because it has the support of a major segment of the community it serves. Perhaps you volunteered and were not called upon this year. Thanks for letting us know you were ready.  See you in the future.
Some parents of former players and several current players are involved this year as coaches and referees. They are gaining valuable experience, contributing to the community, and developing soccer. The Carleton Place Soccer Club offers this opportunity to all its members.
THE BOARD: The Board of Directors works all year mostly behind the scenes to plan and prepare the upcoming season. If you are willing to help, we would really like to hear from you.

Opening: The Club requires a new Screening Officer to organize and track our screening process for Club coaches, managers etc.  If you are interested, please contact Richard Kee.

Club & Team Sponsors

Soccer School is sponsored by TIM HORTON’S of Carleton Place. Tim Horton’s donated a shirt for each player in 16 sets of different colours. Each soccer shirt has Tim Horton’s name on it and the name “Tim Bits”. The Club thanks Dave Peters of Carleton Place Tim Horton’s for his very generous donation.
Thanks to the ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION (Branch 192) for all of the printing services it donates to our Soccer Club.
When you say, “I support the Soccer Club” at the
7 West Café, 10% of your food bill is donated to the Club. Their support and yours is appreciated.
The Club appreciates the support of all team sponsors, parents and community businesses for supporting individual teams.

Support from our Local Municipalities

The Club has cost sharing agreements with Carleton Place, Beckwith Township and Mississippi Mills for the development and maintenance of our soccer fields. Please remember to thank your elected Councilors and the Parks and Recreation people for their continued support and work. Please notice the improvements to the soccer fields at Beckwith Park and at Notre Dame High School.

President's Notes

My heartfelt thanks go out to all the coaches, team managers and Board members for their time and effort on behalf of the soccer community.
These generous volunteers make community-based soccer fun and affordable. I hope all players and families have had a great summer season and are looking forward to the fall and indoor seasons.
