Soccer for all
ages and skills
The
Carleton Place Soccer Club embraces the mission statement of the
Ontario Soccer association (OSA) which states “To provide the
opportunity for any person to play organized soccer and to assist
participants in reaching their potential through the provision of
programs for developing players, coaches”. The emphasis is
not on winning and losing.
The Carleton Place Soccer Club offers two distinct types of soccer
experience for players young and old – recreational and competitive.
The difference in level of commitment between recreational play and
the Div 1 level of competitive play is small, so players are
encouraged to test their skills by trying out for competitive teams.
Recreational Level of Play for Youth
The Goulbourn Lanark
Soccer League (GLSL) offers opportunities for new and experienced
players a single level of recreational play. CPSC teams
practice once a week and have a game once a week against teams from
Carleton Place, Almonte, Munster, Stittsville or Richmond.
Statistics for each game are kept and trophies are awarded at the
end of the season to winning teams.
The Cups (tournaments) will be on
Aug 24, 26, 27 for U8, 9 and 18, and on Sept 7, 9 &, 10 for U10 to
U16.
The playing up to U8 option
for U7 players was a success in 2005. U7 players will again be
allowed to choose to play a final year of soccer school or to play
up on a mixed age U7/8 GLSL team.
Details of the GLSL league structure for the 2006 season are not yet
available. In 2005, the GLSL had three U18 divisions – male, female
and mixed. In mixed
divisions, teams must have at least 3 female players on the field at
all times. Both U18 and U21 teams will be formed where interest and
numbers are sufficient.
The Coaches’
Committee along with the Team Selection Committee carries the
responsibility for the placement of players on teams. The criteria
are outlined on the Club’s Website.
Coaches will contact players
and parents mid May to indicate practice night and location.
Schedules for the season will be handed out at that time to all
players.
There will be a 3-game U8 GLSL Cup in June.
The purpose will be to help players, coaches, referees, and parents
develop a constructive relationship. Scheduling details will be
made available at a later date.
Competitive Levels of Play for Youth
The East Region
Soccer League (ERSL) runs the competitive youth league. It offers 3
progressively more competitive levels of play – Division 1, Premier
and Regional – with a promotion/relegation system for older age
groups. Teams winning Regional leagues at U14 and above are eligible
for promotion to the Ontario Youth Soccer League.
The commitment level is somewhat higher for Premier and Regional
teams. There will likely be more than one practice per week, and
teams often participate in weekend tournaments.
Tryouts will be held for player placement on ERSL teams at
the U10 – U18 age levels. The tryout process allows the Team
Selection Committee to evaluate new and returning players. All
interested players registered in these age groups will be called
with exact dates, times, and locations of tryouts. Please be sure
to indicate on your registration form if you want to attend
tryouts! Only youth players (U10-U18) indicating an interest in
tryouts will be called!
Players trying out for competitive teams must be registered
already or provide a Club registration form signed by a parent
complete with club fees before participating in the first tryout.
At the first tryout the player must provided a tryout fees and
the additional ERSL fee. New players must bring a copy of their
birth certificate before being selected to the team. Those items
will be returned if the player does not make the team.
Coaches will inform selected players of the ERSL teams when and
where practices will occur. If there any questions, please
contact Dennis McQueen, 257-7838 or
dennis_mcqueen@electro-source.ca.
Soccer
School
–
Now Friday Night!
Our very popular Soccer
School program including Tall’nTot is being moved to Friday
night at Beckwith Park. This eliminates problems created by having
two field locations. Soccer School and Tall’nTot has also moved to
a more convenient 6:30 start time (still 1 hour). Thursday night is
a busy night for all leagues which has limited the amount of room
available for Soccer School on this night.
Soccer School for 5 to 7(born 1999 to 2001) year olds provides
instruction in the fundamentals of soccer followed by a fun game.
It starts in early June and runs to the last week of August.
Tall’n Tot – the 4-year old program returns. Children born in 2002
can play with parent partners in the Tall’n’Tot program at the same
time as the regular Soccer School. Experienced coaches will direct
parent-accompanied players through enjoyable soccer experiences.
Each Soccer School players will receive a team shirt (to keep after
the season ends) generously donated by Tim Horton’s Donuts of
Carleton Place. Check out the teams from past years at our local
establishments. Shin pads are mandatory, but either running shoes or
soccer shoes may be used.
Soccer for Men’s and Women’s Teams
The
Ottawa Carleton Soccer League (OCSL) offers different levels
of play for both men and women.
Our Club has entered teams in both the recreational and competitive
levels and will do so again this year as long as there is sufficient
interest and numbers. A tryout may take place for the competitive
teams.

Parents who
have a son or daughter away at school may wish to pre-register the
absent player if he or she will be home during the summer. Required
player signatures will be sought after once the players return and
teams are organized.
The GLSL
offers a league for Master Ladies (+30) Three teams currently
play in this 3 division league. There is the possibility of the
forming an over 40 team in our club. This new division is in the
process of development in the GLSL and a team will be entered if
interest and numbers are sufficient.

CPSC Game Uniforms & Equipment
It is a
requirement of the Ontario Soccer Association (OSA) that teams be
"dressed in the same uniforms". Players not presenting themselves
on the field of play in the Club uniform will not be permitted to
play in a league game.
Club Shirts:
Players will receive a Club shirt that must be
returned at the end of the soccer season or the shirt deposit cheque
will be cashed.
Player Socks:
The Club provides and requires that players wear, ALL
BLACK socks.
Player Shorts:
The Club requires that players provide and wear ALL BLACK
shorts.
Shin pads are mandatory
for all players. Shorts, shin pads, and cleats are the player’s
responsibility.
Soccer Summer Camps
Summer camps
will be offered again this summer. Information will be posted on the
web site as soon as it becomes available. Registration forms will
be provided in the coach’s package in the spring to hand out to
their team.
Registration
Information For 2006
The
registration form has a new look. Mandated by the OSA, this year
(and until they make additional changes), the registration form had
to contain effectively the same content as provided on the OSA’s
registration form. It will require more attention to detail than
before. Also important to note is the requirement for the player’s
signature in addition to the usual parent or guardian signature.
Please take an extra minute to verify that you have
completed all
portions of the form (front and back) before mailing so that missing
information and signatures does not hold up your registration.
If an unregistered player
participates in a Club activity, the insurance is invalid for all
other properly registered players and coaches involved. The
Club rigorously adheres to all regulations in our registration
procedures.
A shirt deposit cheque of $50 is required for each player
(except Soccer School) at the time of registration. The deposit
cheque should be postdated to October 31, 2006. When the Club’s
shirt is returned at the end of the season the post-dated cheque
will be destroyed. If the Club’s
shirt is not returned before October 31, 2006, your cheque will be
cashed.
Make the two cheques payable to “Carleton Place Soccer Club Inc.”
Payment is due in full at the time of registration. After April 1,
any member or player having unpaid fees will not be placed on a
team. There is a $30 Club fee for NSF cheques.
Mail-In
Registration for Returning Families
Mail-in registration is available only to returning 2005 players and
members of their families. If you received this newsletter and
registration form in the mail, you should register by mail. You
do not need to go to Open Registration. Please check the
information on the preprinted registration form and make any
necessary corrections. Clearly indicate if the player wishes to
be called for competitive team tryouts. If you want to add a
new player, just add the name and information directly on the
printed registration form. If you want to delete a player, simply
put a LINE through the name and information. Adjust the fees
according to the fee table to the right and change the shirt deposit
amount.
Registration forms must be mailed to the Club’s PO Box. Do
not give the form to a coach or other Club official. Note CPSC has
a new registrar this year (see new contacts).
Registration is complete when the completed, SIGNED, a cheque for
player fees and a cheque for shirt deposit is mailed to
CARLETON PLACE SOCCER CLUB, INC.,
P.O. Box 85,
Carleton Place, Ontario, K7C
3P3
A late fee of
$30 per (2005 Returning) family is required if your registration is
postmarked later than Feb 24, 2006. Exceptions to the late
registration fee will be made for players new to the community and
students who are away at school.
Open Registration Dates
Open
Registration for NEW families will be held:
Location: Carleton Place Arena in the Board Room
Sunday, February 5th 1:30 p.m. –
3:00 p.m.
Thursday, February 9th 7:00 p.m. – 8:30
p.m.
Fees in 2006
The Club’s fee
structure (cost recovery method) is based on the cost of
fielding a team at the indicated playing level, and a field
development charge. This charge will be used for current field
improvements and future field construction.
The Board of Directors spends your fees carefully to provide
maintained fields, quality equipment, trained coaches and referees,
and to develop soccer.
Insurance, league
fees, and related charges are also factors.

Coaches’ Corner
More
coaches are needed!
The Club’s goal is to
promote and support the game of soccer by providing young people and
adults with the opportunity to play the game. However, the number of
coaches available may restrict the number of teams the Club can
field. Coaches, assistant coaches and managers are required at many
levels and ages. Please indicate your availability on the Volunteer
Sheet or contact Club Head Coach Peter Menyasz at 253-3201 or
peter_menyasz@inksmear.com.
Coaching
Registration
Everyone new or returning, interested in coaching a
team must complete the ‘Coaches Application’ and the Screening form
found on the website.
Each application must be completed in
full and returned as soon as possible.
Applications to coach ERSL teams must be completed online before
January 31. Most of these coaches have been contacted over the
winter.
Applications to coach GLSL teams must be before February 10. These
coaches will be contacted by the end of February.
Practice Plans
The Club contracted in 2005 with Tony Waiters to use his Byte
Size Soccer curriculum, which has been successfully used for some
years in British Columbia. It is available, on a password-protected
basis, for coaches’ use.
Coaching
Certification
The Club pays the cost of required coaching
certification clinics. Level 3 certification is mandatory for
coaches and assistant coaches of ERSL teams, and is encouraged for
coaches of GLSL teams. The Club plans for each Soccer School team to
have one Level 1 certified coach this season.
Internal
Coaches Clinics
The Club will host
internal clinics for coaches of both recreational and competitive
teams. Details will be distributed by e-mail and posted on the Web
site. Details will be distributed by e-mail and posted on the Web
site.
Coaching Theory
Clinics
Coaches are encouraged to take the National Coaching Certification
Program theory courses, which are offered regularly at Algonquin
College.
For more information:
contact Club Head Coach Peter Menyasz at 253-3201 or
peter_menyasz@inksmear.com.
Referees Corner
Are
you looking for an interesting summer job that lets you help your
soccer club, and make money at the same time? Why not sign up to
become a Carleton Place Soccer Club Referee? The Club will supply
you with a uniform (shirt, socks and card wallets) and refund your
training fee if you referee a specific number of games. We need
both youth and especially adult refs.
All new referees must attend
an OSA entry-level (C4) course in the spring before receiving
certification to referee. We are looking
for participants that are 12 years of age (by April 1st this
year), love soccer and are committed to
making the CPSC the best it can be.
See the
Club’s Web site for details and new postings for training.
Field News
All 4 large
fields at Notre Dame should be back in service this year.
Discussions with Beckwith Township will begin in January to make
further improvements to the fields at Beckwith Park. Identified
projects include raising the field height of Beckwith field #8 to
ensure its use for the full soccer season and tile drainage on
fields #6 and #7.
Volunteers are needed to do a weekly check of Beckwith Park and
report to the Field Manager. This takes 30 minutes once a week.
Please indicate your willingness to help on the volunteer form.
Sponsors
The CPSC sincerely
appreciates the following sponsors who provide support for our Club:
Royal Canadian Legion
(Branch 192) for the use
of their photocopier and Tim Horton’s for donating the shirts
for Soccer School.
The Town of Carleton Place, Beckwith Township and Mississippi Mills
share many major costs with us.
Please check our new sponsorship policy on our Website.
Special thanks to David Nephin of Nephin & Winter, Chartered
Accountants (Carleton Place) for preparing the Carleton Place Soccer
Clubs financial audit.
