Our Club has 1143 players registered from
725 families. A special thanks goes to our registrar Hal
Garrett, assistant registrar Angela Dyck and club administrator
Leyla Read for getting this mammoth job completed. We warmly
welcome all returning and new players.
Soccer School has 19 teams of 268
enthusiastic soccer players aged 4 to 7. Our Club is fielding
37 teams in the Goulbourn Lanark Soccer League, 16 teams from
U10 to U18 in East Region Soccer League, and 8 adult teams.
Good soccer to all
teams!
Soccer Fields News
The Club wishes to express our appreciation
again for the ongoing support of Beckwith Township, the Town of
Carleton Place and Mississippi Mills with the development of
soccer fields for the enjoyment of our community.
The advances we’ve made in both the number
and quality of fields amaze those who have been with the Club
for three or more years. A third full field, on Carleton Place
land beside Notre Dame Catholic High School, is in full use.
Additional parking at Beckwith Park is
available in the area south of the baseball diamonds. Please be
the first from your team to park up there – it will set an
example for all others arriving after you.
Coaching News
We have a very impressive group of coaches
for all our teams again this year. Their commitment to a
positive soccer experience for players is unparalleled. Most of
our GLSL coaches have taken one or two Community Coaching
Certification Clinics.
We sincerely
appreciate all the time and expertise that Ruben Vella as Head
Coach has put into getting the teams up and running for the
season. Peter Menyasz is now the Club’s Head Coach.
Congratulations to the Coaching Committee –
Ruben Vella, Hal Garrett, Carroll O’Keefe, Angela Dyck, and
Peter Menyasz - for doing the huge job of getting the players
allocated to teams and the coaches assigned.
Refereeing News
Irv Emmanuel, Bruce Hartill and Kevin Read
have organized an awesome group of referees this year. Many of
our refs are young people. Encourage the referees by showing
them much consideration and respect. They are the ones in
charge of the games.
The growth of our Club reflects the
dedication of a great number of members who generously give
time, energy and commitment to soccer in our communities.
Volunteers make our Club tick. The coaches, referees, board
members and the many individuals who help with activities all
season help the Club succeed. Thank you to each and every one
of you.
We are continually looking for more
support. If you can’t spare some time this season, think about
it for next year. But, during this season, please be encouraging
to everyone who is part of our Club.
Everyone can show support -
ˇ
Be positive with all comments towards players
during practices and during games.
ˇ
Be respectful of opposing teams. Acknowledge good
plays on both sides. Teams and individuals learn and improve
with competition.
ˇ
Show respect for all referees whether from our
Club or other clubs. The refs are the ones who have passed
tests on the laws and they are essential to the games. Keep
spectator comments either positive or silent.
ˇ
Support your coaches and managers. They are
giving freely of their time so the games and practices can go
on. Do not ask coaches and managers to drive your child.
Please stay with your child at the soccer field.
ˇ
Thank members of your Board of Directors when you
next see them. They freely spend many, many hours each month
throughout the year to ensure the winter and summer seasons run
as smoothly as possible. Constructive suggestions are welcome;
more so if accompanied by a willingness to participate.
ˇ
Join the winning team; volunteer a few hours to
help. Talk with someone on the Club Contact List.
We are looking forward to a terrific season
of exciting soccer in our area. Come out and enjoy it with your
player.
At Beckwith Park there are
hundreds of children at play. You need to drive extra safely.
We are pleased to recognize the support of
our community for the Soccer Club. Please show support for
our sponsors.
Throughout the year, the Royal Canadian
Legion provides photocopying privileges for the Soccer
Club. We gratefully acknowledge their ongoing support and
cooperation.
Tim Horton’s continues to support
the youngest players by providing shirts for each team of Soccer
School. All the kids enjoy a free Timbit and drink for each
player on Soccer School night. We extend our sincere thanks to
Dave Peters and all the Tim Horton’s staff.
Tomahawk Technologies Inc.
hosts the Club
website at cpsc.carletonplace.com.
We sincerely appreciate this support.
7 West Café located on Hwy 7
supports our CPSC. Please go and enjoy a meal there. Identify
that you want to support our soccer club. Malik Zekry, the
owner, will donate 10% of your food bill to us from Sunday to
Thursday. He has private rooms for soccer teams’ parties.
Thanks Malik.
The Club
supports KidsFutures. It is a fundraiser for you and the Club.
Printed information will follow.
Four soccer day camps are offered this
summer. Coaches will be Maria Manzon and Andrea Read.

Thanks Lorne, for running this great
program again.
The Club is hosting the 2005 Mississippi
Invitational Soccer Tournament for players U 9 to U 16/17 over
the two weekends listed above. The highlights of our tournament
are:
ˇ
MIST is distinctive because we restrict
registration to Division 1 or entry-level competitive teams.
ˇ
Teams are guaranteed a minimum of 4 games.
ˇ
Medals will be awarded for first, second, third
place winners and consolation game winners.
Teams have entered from eastern and
southern Ontario. Our tournament is growing and we are
expecting over 100 teams over both weekends. Come out and watch
this good level of soccer.
For further information or if you wish to
volunteer, please contact either coordinator.

The awards and trophies won for the season
games will be presented on these two weekends.
The League Cup is a weekend of soccer with
separate games, playoffs and awards. The players love this
format. Count on your first Cup game to be scheduled on the
Thursday before your weekend. Again this year, we’ll try to
have the round robins completed by the end of Saturday.
Dr. Rob Earle,
Chiropractor, sponsors the end of soccer school season BBQ. We
are very grateful for his generous support.
On a
safety note, please do not drop off players and leave the soccer
area. If you must leave, please place your child in another
parent’s care, and inform the player and the coach of who that
care person is. Soccer is a physical sport where serious
injuries are possible. Not only would coaches have logistical
problems taking an unsupervised child to the hospital, but we
would also have problems contacting the player’s parents.
Please watch for
the next newsletter, which will contain the full details about
our year-end wrap-up.
On Saturday, June 18, the Carleton Place
Shooters women’s team successfully hosted the 2005 Just For The
Fund Of It tournament. Eleven teams from Eastern Ontario
participated. A whopping $3389.87 was raised to purchase a
Therapeutic Medical Laser for the Carleton Place & District
Memorial Hospital as part of the “Help Improve Tomorrow Today”
Campaign. Congratulations CP Shooters.
The CP Shooters will participate in the
Ladies (30+) World’s Masters Games in Edmonton in July. Good
luck to them.
The winners of the raffle for the Shooter’s
trip to Edmonton are:
Deacon’s Bench - Don Bennett, Carleton Place
Lambden’s Doors & Windows gift certificate – Art Morris, Perth
Cedar chest - Steph & Chantal (no last name), Carleton Place
Wine rack – Jack Lalonde, Lanark
Fleece – Ann Caya, Nepean
